Ron & Kathy's Travels

One day, ten waterfalls

After leaving Cairns yesterday we headed for Millaa Millaa via the Gillies Highway (which is famous for its 263 corners and 800m elevation change in only 19kms – not quite as many corners as the ‘Tail of the Dragon’ in Deals Gap on US129 in North Carolina/Tennessee but definitely just as challenging because of the elevation change) and today we set out to visit as many of the nearby waterfalls as possible.

We knew there were about a dozen waterfalls nearby and we managed to get to ten of them – we visited Millaa Millaa Falls, Zillie Falls, Ellinjaa Falls, Mungalli Falls (after stopping at the wonderful organic Mungalli Dairy and Cheesery for morning tea), Silver Falls, Nandroya Falls, Tchupala Falls and Wallicher Falls (this is where we saw Vinnie, the really nice old VW Kombi), Souita Falls (there are two sets of falls at this location) and, finally, Pepina Falls.

Also included in this set of photos is a picture of the sign on the amenities block at the caravan park we’re staying at …
