Today we travelled from Asheville, NC to Gatlinburg, TN finishing the 469 mile long Blue Ridge Parkway in the process.

Once again we had glorious weather and great roads although today’s driving challenges mainly related to safely trying to pass cyclists (many riding in groups and using the full width of the lane) on narrow winding roads.

The final 90 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway took us through most of the tunnels that occur along its length and over the highest point in its entire length.

Upon arriving in Gatlinburg we headed straight for ‘Ole Smokey Moonshine’ and I stocked on Moonshine Nog (only made at this time of year in time fro Christmas) while Ron opted for the Pumpkin Pie (also seasonal) and Charred (made tough for bikers!) varieties.

We then spent the rest of the afternoon and early evening wandering around Gatlinburg (which was incredibly busy for a weekday) and checking out many of the wonderful boutique shops here.

We then checked into the hotel but when we approached our allocated room I noticed a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign hanging on the door. Fortunately the room was empty but it had not been serviced so we were given an upgraded room complete with its own fireplace!
